[00:00:00] Foreign. [00:00:06] You're listening to Katie, you are Durango, and this is the Astro of the Day report with Jamie, Rhiannon and Rai from Three of Cups Astrology. [00:00:14] This is Rye with your report for Thursday, October 8th, 2026. Okay gang, so today is another day where we don't have any new signatures popping up, which means it's snack time. [00:00:24] As a review before we dive in, our moon is sitting in detail oriented Virgo and is in dynamic aspects with Mercury and Venus in Scorp. [00:00:32] Virgo is a Mercury ruled sign as well as Gemini, which means this moon is being ruled by Mercury in Scorpio right now. [00:00:39] And our little snack for today is actually going a little bit deeper on Mercury and the signs that it rules. So what's really cool about Mercury is actually that in both traditional and modern astrology, it rules Gemini and Virgo. It is one of the only planets that retains dual rulership status under the modern system, and both of the signs it happens to rule are mutable signs or signs that are easily adaptable. The traditional system was developed before the discovery of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, and to account for each sign having a ruling planet, Mercury, Mars, Venus and Saturn all pulled double duty and were each assigned to two signs. [00:01:15] There is still a good amount of debate over rulership under the modern system, in large part because the outer planets have been discovered move so slowly and so generationally that it doesn't seem realistic to give them the status of chart ruler when the human experience is so dynamic and ever shifting. [00:01:31] The reason we have planetary rulers is because they give us insights into which planets are going to impact us the most as they move through the sky and make aspects to other planets. Mercury can zip through a sign in three weeks and a whole chart in one year, whereas Neptune can take as long as 15 years in one sign. [00:01:48] Obviously, being Mercury ruled versus Neptune ruled would produce vastly different life experiences. [00:01:53] Nevertheless, even under the system, Mercury continues to rule the two most cerebral signs of the zodiac, acting as a poetic nod to the nuance and flexibility that communication and intellectual thought often requires. [00:02:06] This has been your daily report with Three of Cups Astrology. Tune back in tomorrow for more on what magic the stars are getting up to.
